SOF Airport Live Departures

Checking in at Sofia Airport

The first port of call when you arrive at any airport is to check-in. For that, we recommend checking the latest Sofia Airport departures information either at the entrance of the airport or on our live departures board above. (Our board will show you Sofia Airport departures for tomorrow as well.) This step is important because Sofia Airport has two terminals. If you’re at the wrong terminal for your airline, you can take the free shuttle bus from outside the terminal building. It departs every 15 minutes, 24/7.

Once you know which check-in desk to go to, head there to drop off your luggage and collect your boarding pass (if it’s not on your phone).

When to arrive at Sofia Airport?

We recommend that you arrive at least 2 hours before your flight. This will give you enough time to get through Sofia Airport (Bulgaria) departures.

What’s next?

Once you’ve checked in, you can head to the security and customs check. When you get to security, scan your boarding pass to join the queue. While you wait for your turn at the conveyor belt, prepare your items for scanning. First, remove your jackets, belts, watches, hats, etc. as these items will need to be scanned.

Then, remove your liquids bag from your hand luggage. The standard restrictions for liquids, aerosols, and gels is that they must not exceed 100 ml each or exceed 1 litre total. You can place them in a clear plastic bag.

Tip: Be sure to check the prohibited items before you pack.

When you get to the front of the line, place your liquids, outerwear, and electronics into a tray. Place your hand luggage into a separate tray. Then you can walk through the metal detector and collect your hand luggage on the other side.

After security and customs checks, your journey depends on where you’re flying to. Bulgaria is a Schengen State. So if you are travelling to another Schengen member country, you don’t need to go through passport control. If you’re travelling outside of the Schengen zone, your passport and other travel documents (like visas) need to be checked before you can go to the departures lounge at Sofia Airport.

What to do in Departures at Sofia Airport?

As a modern airport, departures at Sofia Airport are fully equipped with seating, charging points, toilets, accessible toilets, and duty-free stores.

However, Sofia Airport departures at Terminal 2 is a little more exciting than Terminal 1. It has a shop of Bulgarian products for last-minute gifts and souvenirs. You’ll also find a handful of selected restaurants and cafés serving food from the early hours to late at night.

Terminal 1 is much smaller, and therefore only offers a grocery shop, accessories shop, newsstand, and alcoholic beverages shop. There are also two cafés/restaurants.

Note that your experience in departures varies from terminal to terminal, but you must be at the right one. Check our live board above for updated information on Sofia Airport departures today.
