Arriving at Sofia Airport

Once you’ve touched down safely at Sofia Airport and disembarked the plane, you’ll follow the signs to passport control. Your path through immigration depends on what passport you’re holding. If you have an EU or UK passport, you’ll enter a different lane to other passport holders. To save time, have your passport and any relevant visas ready to show the customs officer. E-Gates are available if you have a qualifying passport with the e-gate symbol on it.

Once you’ve passed through passport control, you can go to baggage reclaim to collect any checked luggage. Check the screens to identify which conveyor belt will be delivering luggage from your flight.

Now you have your belongings, head towards customs. Customs is divided into two lanes: “nothing to declare” and “goods to declare”. If you have nothing to declare, walk straight through. If you have goods to declare, wait in the appropriate area to speak to a customs officer.

After passing through customs, you’ll finally reach the Arrivals Hall at Sofia Airport.

Sofia Airport Transport

While Sofia Airport is small, it has excellent transport links to the city centre and beyond. Sofia Airport Arrivals at Terminal 1 can find the public transport ticket kiosks by the rental car desks. The taxi stand is outside of the right-side exit of the terminal.

In Terminal 2, you’ll find the taxi office and rent-a-car desks close together in the Arrivals Hall. The bus stop is directly in front of the terminal building.

You can purchase a bus ticket to Sofia city centre for €0.80 (BGN 1.60) and catch the bus directly outside the terminal steps. It will get you to Sofia in around 40 minutes and departs every 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can get a quick, convenient airport taxi from the taxi stands outside of the airport. For an even smoother transit to Sofia city centre or other popular destinations, consider booking a professional private transfer from a top-rated company like Welcome Pickups.
